Dr Mary Klimek Answers All of Your Chiropractic Questions

As a Chiropractor, I get lots of questions – and I’m always happy to answer them. In this week’s blog I thought I’d answer the most common questions I get from patients. While these are the most commonly asked, in my next few blogs I’ll tackle some of the more obscure ones about height, sex, and the other tings you ask about. Got a question you want answered, drop me a  line at

Question: Should I go to the chiro?

You should see a chiro when you’re having any type of pain or discomfort. Chiropractic care has been proven to be a safe and effective way to treat neck and back pain.

Most people think you only go to a chiro to treat pain in the neck, low back, back; to address posture; and for TMJ. But chiropractic can keep you healthy if you don’t have any associated pains. Seeing a chiro is a way to be proactive when it comes to your health and wellness.

If you’re an athlete – whether logging miles on your Peloton or pounding the pavement, you should see a chiropractor as part of your active lifestyle.

Question: What does a chiropractor do?

Chiropractic care is a non surgical solution to help with your neck and back pain – and so much more!

Your typical initial visit to a chiropractor involves evaluations – including looking at x-rays. From there a chiro will work with you to create a treatment plan. Those plans typically include a series of adjustments.  Adjustments help with your skeletal alignment.  Getting an adjustment helps increase range of motion in the joint, decreases inflammation around your joints, helps take pressure off nerves and disks. Adjustments help your pain and discomfort go away. Sometimes it’s instant, other times it takes a bit longer based on the cause of the pain. When you’re pain free that’s when you’re able to live your best life.

Question: Will it help me sleep better?

Yes! Absolutely. We look at sleep issues in three ways:

  • Falling asleep is difficult
  • Waking up in the middle of night
  • Having pain when you wake up in the morning

When we identify where you’re struggling with your sleep, we can help figure out how to get you sleeping better. For example, if you’re going to bed and can’t fall asleep because you’re in pain, that might be caused by something happening earlier in the day. If you’re waking up in the AM and you’re in pain, then you might need to change your sleep position.
